You are probably aware that working out is good for you. After all, it makes you feel better and stronger, but why? In this blog post, I’m going to give you a closer look at just why that is. So get ready, because this list will give you a reason to get up and moving!
Before I get started with the list, I want to make a quick disclaimer. Physical exercise is very important, but spiritual exercise is even more important. Check out this Bible verse from 1 Timothy 4:8 and keep it in mind every time you exercise physically.
For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
- Exercise makes you happy!
Multiple different studies have shown that when the human body is exercising, chemicals are released throughout the body that improve your level of happiness. Who knew, right? Getting in even as little as ten minutes of exercise in the morning can actually boost your mood for the entire day!
2. Working out = a good night’s rest!
Exercising can also help you sleep! Having a good work out has been proven to help regulate sleeping patterns and fight insomnia, giving you a good night’s rest. While many people turn to medicines and such, exercise and a healthy diet is the easiest (and not to mention cheapest) way to fix irregular sleeping patterns.
3. Exercising helps you be more energized!
Although this may seem contradictory, exercising can actually help you feel more energized! When you do any kind of physical activity, it strengthens your cardiovascular system, gets your blood pumping, and boosts your metabolism, which results in more energy. Hooray for more energy!
4. Getting exercise boosts your immune system!
If you’re one of those people who seems to catch another sickness just as you’re getting rid of a sickness, this one’s for you! Working out causes you to flush out all of the bad bacteria in your body and reduce the risk of stress-related diseases. Next time you feel a cold coming on, grab your workout clothes and get some blood pumping!
5. Working out helps to maintain your God-given body!
The most important reason that you should work out is that it helps you take care of your temple. If you don’t get the reference, take a look at 1 Corinthians 6:19a. It says:
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
This verse clearly tells us that our bodies are not our own, but they are God’s. If you were to build a house for God to stay in, would you want the house to have creaky floors, dingy walls, and crumbling ceilings? Of course not! In the same way, we should always remember that the Holy Spirit lives inside us. We should keep our bodies in tip-top condition for God and God only.
I could go on and on about the benefits of working out, but I chose to keep it to just five main points. I hope this article motivated you to get up and get some exercise! Never forget that God lives in us and we should always treat ourselves in a way that helps perfect the place in us where the Holy Spirit lives. Happy working out!
